Taekwondo is a Korean martial art. It combines combat and self-defense techniques with sport and exercise.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art developed during the 1940s. 

The main international organizational bodies for taekwondo today are the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), founded by General Choi Hong Hi in 1966, and the partnership of the Kukkiwon and the World Taekwondo Federation (WT), founded in 1972 and 1973 respectively by the Korea Taekwondo Association. 

Taekwondo was a demonstration sport at the Olympics in 1988 and  has been an Olympic event since 1992 for sparring. The body known for taekwondo in the Olympics is the World Taekwondo Federation.
