This was my fourth time going to Top of the South, but it was Charlie’s first time so he was feeling very excited but nervous. Charlie’s poomsae division was 3rd . Before he did his poomsae I ran him through what he needed to do, I also coached his poomsae. He did really well but unfortunately missed out on a medal.

Best Poomsae

At Labour weekend Christchurch Olympic took a team, which included myself and my younger brother Charlie, up to Blenheim.

My poomsae division was 5th. I couldn’t help but feel nervous and excited at the same time. I won my division and felt great that my little brother was very proud and excited for me. A little while later my name came over the loud speaker to compete for best of the best colour belts which surprised me. They wouldn’t tell us who won until the end of the tournament which made me feel anxious.

Then we had sparing. Charlie and I had ours at the end of the day. When my brother was getting ready to spar he told me that he was feeling nervous so I told him to relax and what he needed to do. He did really well and got ten points but unfortunately he lost by eight points, but he still came second. We were all very proud!

Then I had my fight. I was leading at first but then my opponent fought back harder and got four more points in front of me. So unfortunately I lost my fight as well, but still came second. My Mum said it was the best fight she had seen me do, I got 3 points and my opponent got seven.

By the end of the tournament we all were very tired but we still had the medal ceremony. Charlie achieved his goal of getting his first medal, a silver, and I got a silver too. At the end of the medal ceremony I was awarded the Best colour belt poomsae of the tournament, I was so happy! It was a great day for our club as Christine was awarded best black belt sparer and best black belt poomsae also.
