On Saturday 8th August, our dojang had the honour of hosting the world-class athlete Dafydd Sanders. Dafydd currently holds the 12th position in the WORLD for Kyorugi in his division and plans to make it into the 2016 Olympics in Rio. On the way to achieving this massive goal, Dafydd visited our humble little Hoon Hay dojang to teach us what champions are made of - turns out it involves a lot of frog splits, cutting kicks and mental guts.
At this seminar, we were taught all the secrets of sparring, intertwined closely with world-level Taekwondo. Some of the things we were taught during the eight hours included stretching to get higher kicks, defence mechanisms, the different phases of a fight, and how to prepare both physically and mentally for a big match. For me, I’m not a big sparring person. I never know what kick to throw or how to hold my ground, but this seminar really helped me! Not only with my technique, but also my confidence.
Dafydd was a real inspiration and has definitely inspired me to give Kyorugi a shot. Victory is always possible for the person who refuses to stop fighting! This was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity and all of the members who attended will be sure to put this knowledge to good use. Give it your all for Rio Dafydd, Christchurch Olympic is cheering for you!
Please join the Union in supporting Dafydd towards his goal of attending the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Australian Open 2015 (G2) Bronze Medallist, currently ranked 12th in the world. Dafydd has just returned from training in UK and competing at the World Champs, and the European and Middle East G1 & G2 Open circuit.
