On Monday 27th I had the honour of visiting Master Kaino Thomsen- Fuataga's Taekwondo Club: KL Taekwondo in Mautautu-uta, Samoa. I had taken inspiration from a recent conversation with Dafydd Sanders who has visited countless Clubs overseas and I looked to see if there were any Taekwondo Clubs in the area that I could visit during my brief stay while my husband was working in central Apia. I was lucky enough to be given the contact details of Master Kaino who most will know as Samoa's star Taekwondo Athlete who competed at the 2012 London Olympics.
It was a real honour to meet Kaino and his family and such a great experience to train with his Club. While I was clearly unaccustomed to the extreme heat I would have loved to have stayed longer and trained more with the Club. We have exchanged contact details and I look forward to the day Kaino and his students travel to New Zealand for a tournament and I look forward to returning the hospitality they showed me.
I'd like to thank Master Kaino and his Club and family for making me feel so welcome. It was a real highlight of my short stay in Samoa and I hope to return again one day soon.
