POOMSAE SEMINAR with JO KILLALEA and SELENA CHHIKA
WORLD TAEKWONDO FEDERATION POOMSAE COMPETITION RULES & INTERPRETATION
"When you start to train for that level of competition you need to know the rules inside out, as part of the preparation we studied what the judges will be looking at and what will result in deductions".
|| On Saturday 12th July students from the Club participated in a Taekwondo Union of NZ Poomsae Seminar. The seminar was run by Jo Killalea and Selena Chhika who are both from Hutt Valley Taekwondo in Wellington. Both Jo and Selena are New Zealand Representatives who recently participated at the Poomsae World Championships in Bali.
The Seminar was incredibly informative, covering all aspects of Poomsae including competition scoring and rules, deductions, and detailed analysis of our stances, kicks, blocks and strikes. We learned how to practise and perform Poomsae as a team and then worked our way through all the poomsae perfecting our technique and improving our understanding of the different poomsae. We finished the day with a chance to try the i-poomsae poomsae scoring application. We each took turns to score our students and compared results.
The Club would like to thank Jo and Selena for sharing their wealth of knowledge. We have all taken plenty of notes and we picked up plenty of great new tips and ideas to improve our Poomsae. These seminars are a fantastic opportunity to improve your knowledge and skills. I encourage everyone to make it along to the next one!
