My Experience – Jacob Moylan

As a ”newbie” to the Christchurch Olympic TKD Tournament Team, everything can and was quite scary arriving on tournament day but really after now having been to two tournaments they are absolutely great fun and the whole experience is the best.

Joanne asked me to tell of my experience so this it! Not knowing when to really put my gear on, when to warm up, how to warm up, what the judges are saying and pointing to, is now starting to sink in with lots of help from a great team but most of all Nic.  Nic is pretty up front with me and has loads of experience and I do my best to listen to him as he is a great coach and gives me lots of good pointers.  Joanne as the Boss on the day is great and helped me get to the right ring, dressed in the right coloured chest protector and be there at the right time.  Being nervous I forgot all of this many times and asked the same questions to Joanne many times; sorry and thanks for being so nice.  For anyone from the club thinking about doing tournaments they are great and will certainly help your skills, fitness and confidence and just as important appreciate what an awesome TKD club we have.

What was great about the Top of the South Champs

  1. Stadium 2000 as a venue was awesome with the gym and pool together
  2. Learning lots about the art and skills of TKD from watching others
  3. Cheering on my team mates and seeing some amazing fights
  4. Having Subway in the same building!!

TUNZ - - - TOP OF THE SOUTH TAEKWONDO NEW ZEALAND

Well when I first joined the club I didn’t know anyone and had even forgotten my third pattern. The instructors were great and I quickly got to know people in the club. They were all nice even that Neil guy. The first tournament I entered with the club I felt ready because I had trained well. Even though I didn't win my pattern, my fights went better resulting in a silver medal. When I was waiting in-between fights I talked to many of the people who were there competing and like before they were all friendly and helpful. This was one of my great experiences with this amazing club.

I look forward to my future challenges in TKD knowing that the club and its awesome people are behind me all the way!

The Top of the South was a great opportunity to travel as a team with stops at Kaikoura, the pup seal colony at the water fall and the Hanmer Springs hot pools.
