Christchurch Olympic Taekwondo Club welcomes Victor Francey
The Club would like to extend a warm welcome to Victor Francey who is visiting from his hometown of Gruyere in Switzerland. Victor is here in Christchurch till December studying English at Languages International. He will complete his 3 month course before taking 1 month to travel around both the South and North Island. Following this he is travelling to Australia for 1 month and then on to Korea for a month studying Taekwondo.
Victor, aged 21, is the Swiss National Taekwondo Poomsae Champion and we are honoured to have him train with us. Victor started training at the age of 7 years at his Club: 'Kim Taekwondo Fribourg' under the instruction of Master Dieu Huy Song. He achieved his black belt in 2004 and then his current rank of 2nd dan in 2010.
Victor says his biggest achievement in Taekwondo is placing 11th at the 2012 World Poomsae Championships in Colombia and he also placed 7th at the European Championships. His next big goal is to achieve a medal at the European Championships in 2015. We wish you all the best for this goal and we know you will be successful. Since coming to train at our Club, Victor has competed at both the NZ Nationals and Top of the Souths where has won gold in the individual men's poomsae.
Whilst Victor is here in Christchurch he has been kind enough to share both his incredible talent and passion for Poomsae with our students. We are extremely grateful for all the time and patience he has shown as he has assisted us to correct our Poomsae and improve under his excellent instruction. For those who have seen him in action you will agree that it is impossible to not be inspired by his Poomsae and this is clearly evident as the number of students attending our Tuesday Poomsae class has doubled!
For those of you who aspire to become a Champion like Victor, you will need to practise hard. Victor trains 5 days a week, 2 hours a day and then he also spends a further 2 weekends per month. Victor's specific advice to the students at Christchurch Olympic Taekwondo looking to improve their Poomsae is to "practice your stances". We will definitely be taking this on board and implementing some of Victor's training drills to ensure we continue to improve.
On behalf of the Club we would like to thank you Victor for sharing your knowledge with us. We really hope you enjoy your time in Christchurch and enjoy your time with our Club.
